Most commonly used in tube jigs the tear drop jigs are also referred to as a tube jig head and are designed to be inserted into plastic tubes.

They come in a variety of sizes with different hook sizes intended to be matched with the size of the tube. Micro tubes for Crappie and other panfish commonly are 1.5 to 2 inches in length and work very well with 1/32, 1/16 and 1/8 size heads that are poured on size 6, 4, 2 and 1 hooks.

When using them for smallmouth bass in 3 – 4 inch tubes the common weights are 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz and typically have 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0 hooks in them. Other styles of tube jig heads include Chicklet Style and Tic-Tac shaped lead.

All serve the same purpose but have slightly different fall rates and gliding motions. Tear drop style heads fall more nose down, Chicklet style glides more and Tic Tac style heads offer a more level fall to the tubes. These style of jig heads do not come with the collared keepers.
