There are certain components that make a fisherman’s life convenient, snaps and swivels or a combination of the two are included.

Snaps – Snaps refer to a bent wire that clasps upon itself and can be used as a quick release for changing baits, helping fishermen avoid retying all the time. Some of the stronger snaps are cross lock snaps, duolock snaps and interlocking snaps. Snap sizes typically range from size 1(001) to 4 (004) and can be rated from 20 to 50 lb test. Snaps will effectively work with most crankbaits since they allow more movement from the lure.

Swivels – Swivels also come in a variety of sizes, styles and even colors but the most common are 3 way, Barrel and Ball Bearing. Ball Bearing swivels are the best when looking to avoid line twist with spinning lures like in line spinners but come at a much higher price than barrel swivels. Swivel sizes in the river section are much smaller, often times from size 6 to size 12. Regular use swivels start at size 1 and go up in number meaning down in size.
