Jig heads otherwise known as lead head jigs are nothing more than a hook that has lead poured onto the front section typically moulded around the eye of the hook. Different shapes and sizes are available but some of the more common ones are as follows:

Ball Head – Ball head jigs are poured onto a 90 degree jig hook that secures the lead in the bend of the hook.

Football Jigs – As the name suggests the head shape of these jigs is that of a football but the lead forms the football perpendicular to the hook shank.

Darter Head Jigs – Once again as the name implies the darter head jig is designed for swimming applications and baits that are intended for moving along more rapidly.

Tear Drop Jigs – Most commonly used in tube jigs the tear drop jigs are also referred to as a tube jig head and are designed to be inserted into plastic tubes.
